The Three Little Sun Bears ~ Annike Forzani, Illustrated By Peter Schoenfeld

“The Three Little Sun Bears” is the story of three sun bears who live in the tropical rainforest. The three brothers chose three different places to build their homes. The first sun bear builds a home amongst the lower leaves of the coconut trees. The second sun bear chooses the tall grass beside the pond as the place for building the home. The third sun bear decides to use a cave as home and blocks the entrance with a large rock. The poor sun bears are targeted by a Siberian Tiger who wants to eat them. So do the sun bears escape from becoming the meal of the tiger?

“The Three Little Sun Bears” draws inspiration from the classic children’s story of “Thre Little Pigs”. However, while the basic idea might be similar, this book changes the characters to “Sun bears” and “Siberian Tiger”. Since the sun bears live in tropical rainforests, that becomes the setting for the story and the basis for illustrations. With the help of colourful illustrations, the details about the sun bears and the tropical rainforests come alive on the pages of this book. The end of the book has some more interesting facts about sun bears and Siberian tigers.

“The Three Little Sun Bears” is suitable for children from three-to-seven years old. It can either be read aloud to them or they can read the story themselves as the book’s text is simple and easy to read. Apart from being entertained with an engrossing story, the children are also introduced to rain forests, sun bears and Siberian tigers. The bright and cheerful illustrations will keep their attention from wandering.

Language Lizard publishes bilingual books, multicultural books and dual-language audiobooks. This helps in promoting literacy and reading skills. “The Three Little Sun Bears” is available bi-lingually in Arabic( translated by Mahi Adel) and Spanish. Having the book in multiple languages increases the reach of the book. Children, who cannot read English, or are still learning to read English, can read the story in their native language. When children read (or hear) a story in their own language, then they can relate more to the story. This increases the interest of the children in reading, increasing their literacy proficiency.

“The Three Little Sun Bears” is the perfect read for the little ones, it not only entertains but also educates.

The Three Little Sun Bears can be purchased from Language Lizard as well as Amazon.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2022 (1/28/22) is in its 9th year! This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen; two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural books and authors on the market while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators.

MCBD’s mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves. Read about our Mission & History HERE.
