BlogchatterA2Z(O) ~ Love On A Sunday Morning

The Sangeet was already in full swing when the three sisters reached Jaswinder’s house. The DJ was belting out one hit after the other, while girls from their neighbourhood crowded the pocket-sized dance floor, trying to dance unselfconsciously. Surrounding the perimeter were young men eyeing the girls.

The sisters sighed. They hated this bit of the weddings. They loved dancing, but seeing the young men, they were not sure. The three sisters attracted enough unwanted attention as it is.

“I thought you said only women were going to be there at the sangeet,” Juhi hissed at Madhuri.

“That’s what Jaswinder had said,” Madhuri hissed back.

They looked at each other, wondering if they should make their excuses and leave, but just then, Jaswinder came barrelling up to them, looking excited but frazzled.

“You are late!” she squealed, hugging one sister after the other. The Sangeet is so boring when the three of you are not there. Come to the dance floor, show us your moves!” she said, pulling Madhuri by her arm.

Madhuri resisted. She loved dancing, but seeing the men around made her shy.

“Jaswinder, you said it would be ladies only.”

Jaswinder frowned. “It was supposed to be ladies only. But then my cousin Jagjit surprised us by coming to my wedding, and my brother thought it was a good idea to idea to invite his duffer friends to my Sangeet.”

Seeing the sisters hesitate, she added, “Don’t worry, his friends are duffers, but they are decent. They won’t trouble you. Come na!”

The sisters looked at one another, unsure what to do. Juhi gave a small shrug. They were anyway there, and Jaswinder looked so eager that she didn’t have the heart to disappoint her.
